State board returns land to Chapman School District
In a 6-3 vote with one absent, the Kansas State Board of Education granted back 55 to 60 square miles of land from Abilene to Chapman, ending a two year dispute tied to the 2000 transfer that followed Chapman closing its Talmage elementary school. The decision divides the districts along Kansas 18 and preserves most Chapman students already in Chapman schools while acknowledging consolidation pressures and warnings of dangerous precedents from board members.
