A major delivery arrives in Ottawa as a truck with 40 pianos parks for unloading at Saunders Music Company on Main. The load fills seven parking meters, marking one of the city’s largest instrument shipments.
Billy Graham urges New Yorkers to consider if Jesus is the son of God and the path to salvation as he launches the fifth week of his New York crusade in Madison Square Garden. The event draws crowds and beliefs are debated as Graham emphasizes repentance and celebration in heaven for each sinner who accepts Christ.
Jay Ellis and R E J Anderson will hold a farm auction on Wednesday June 19 starting at 1 o clock a mile north of Homewood. Proceeds go to repair tornado damage. Also notes include Emporia State scholarship to Marick Payton and community theater work of Anna Bunyan, plus Kiwanis Ottawa meeting on local industry drive. Also Billy Graham crusade warning from Catholic editor urging cautious participation.
Two suits were filed in District court yesterday. L M Ascough of Topeka filed a mortgage foreclosure suit against Lawrence W Peffly seeking 1625 plus 5 percent interest from Nov 14 1956. Marion A Dempsay of Kansas City Mo filed a claim against Michael Gray for 46043 20 for labor materials used in drilling oil and gas wells on several tracts. Dempsay seeks 1503 60 for drilling on R R Redmonds property 1888 for W L and A M Beebe 1124 for J Mark Haight and 1527 60 for drilling on Effie Triplett et al property. A separate note reports PFC Monte J Daulton of Paola injured in a fall in Munich Germany while serving with Company C 502nd Infantry. He was then in hospital awaiting further care and was to spend a day or two at home.
In Helsinki Nikita Khrushchev rejected Western disarmament controls as a screen for an arms race. He said the Soviet Union would accept international inspection posts in the USSR United States Britain and other countries if that would aid a nuclear test ban. He stressed no system of limited agreement could solve disarmament without broader trust.
Ottawa Jaycees confirm Atomic Energy Commission's Atoms For Peace bus will visit July 4 and 5 for the Fourth of July celebrations in Forest Park and in front of the courthouse. Five Jaycees plan to attend the National Junior Chamber of Commerce Convention in Milwaukee June 25 to 27. Attendees include Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mavity Jr. and others. A vote on a new midweek meeting night will be held next meeting to avoid schedule conflicts.
Janet Scott Franklin County Dairy Princess will travel to Lawrence Saturday for the District Dairy Princess Contest at the Lawrence 4-H Fair Grounds beginning at 6 p.m. with judges, and the district winner will be named at 7 30 p.m. The winner advances to Kansas Dairy Princess at Hutchinson State Fair in September. she is sponsored by the Ottawa Junior Chamber of Commerce with local Dairy Day committee members joining.
TOPEKA Kansas state revenue director John Kirchner announced the dismissal of the department's entire 18 refinery agents effective June 18. He said the layoffs bring total full time eliminations to 9 since February 1 and that the positions will not be replaced, saving about 5 000 to 6 000 dollars monthly in salaries.
Death of IM Set and Mrs Allen W Roberts infant daughter Reva Corrine Roberts aged months occurred yesterday at Fort Leavenworth Army Hospital from a pancreas ailment. Born July 16 1956 in Germany she became ill there in January. Survived by parents two sisters Mary Jane Karen Sue grandparents Mr and Mrs Willard Wallace and Mr and Mrs Allen Roberts Sr Ottawa Kansas.
Hospital notes show admissions for Max Kiefer RFD 3 Ottawa and Sidney 0 Morris 628 S Locust, Wednesday. Dismissals include Linda Chism 681 N Cherry and Mrs J J Luther, Mrs Roland Johnson and infant son 836 Tremont. Also listed are Mrs Raymond Feuer RFD 4 Garnett and Mrs Milton Hackett Pomona with Friday entries.
Chilean maritime authorities say 11 crew members and 2 passengers are believed dead after the tanker Jeanette wrecked near the port of Huasco on Tuesday.
