Weekly Santa Fe carloadings for week ending June 8, 1957 reached 23 816 down from 27 367 in 1956. Connections received 10 031 vs 11 008 in 1956. Total cars moved 33 947 vs 38 375 in 1955. Tragic Train Wreck Near Vroman Kills 12 Mexican Workers
A truck carrying 18 Mexican field workers was struck by an eastbound Santa Fe freight train west of Vroman Colorado, killing 12 aboard including the Rocky Ford driver Sylvester Licano. Bodies were scattered along the railroad right of way for hundreds of feet. no train crew injuries reported.

Trailer Upset Triggers Michigan Crash On US 50
Wesley Wayne Smith, 18, of Easton Rapids Michigan, lost control of a house trailer on US 50 at Ransomville causing a crash sequence with two oncoming cars driven by William Groseclose of Merriam and Donna Lilley of Overland Park. Groseclose’s vehicle suffered minor damage while Lilley’s was major. Trailer damage estimated at 2000 dollars. Smith reported the trailer began whipping and overturned after attempting to regain control while traveling east at about 45 miles per hour.
