A. C. Carpenter assisted at the Em poria summer institute for teachers of science at Emporia State College. The National Science Foundation granted 532,000 toward the Emporia program. Sixty teachers were in attendance and the six week institute runs this summer.
Hospital notes list births for Saturday Sunday and Monday including families Kean Hol linger Ray mond Davis Deanna Ames and Charles Stevenin with weights 6 pounds 12% ounces 9 pounds 4% ounces and 7 pounds % ounce. Dismissals include Pamela Jean Plett Jean Reichard Jerry Thompson and Mrs James Snider infant son with addresses in Williams burg and Wellsville.
Burglars entered The Ottawa Herald through a back door around noon Sunday and stole $57 from a desk. A knife cut part of a door casing and blade was used on the latch while several desks in the office were rifled.
Eight cases were heard in Po lice Court this morning. Charles Henderson Grover, 22, cited for running the red light at 3rd and Main, forfeited a $5 bond. Terry T. Wood, 18, cited for running the red light at 4th and Main, pleaded guilty and fined $5. George R. Sharpe, 23, cited for running the red light at 7th and Main, forfeited a $5 bond. Tetwiler Motor Co. forfeited a $1 bond on overtime parking on West 4th. Franklin D. Franks, 16, Ottawa, fined $10 for illegal mufflers and stop lights. Franks given 24 hours to repair. pleaded guilty after failing to do so. G. C. Barnes, Williamsburg, cited for parking on Main after 1 a.m., forfeited a $1 bond. Richard E. Krumpe, 22, and Leonard Alvin Hoopes, 21, cited for speeding 25 mph in 15 mph zone in Forest Park. pleas guilty, fines $20 and costs each. A ninth case, William Whitacre, 306% S. Main, charged with parking on Main after 1 a.m., to be tried tomorrow morning.
Thirteen persons from New Hope and Ruhamah Baptist Churches were baptized at Turkey Creek on the Charles Craig farm near New Hope Church. Rev. R B Shoemaker officiated. Eleven from New Hope and two from Ruhamah. Music by Mrs R B Shoemaker accompanied the service. attendees included representatives from several local churches in Ottawa and nearby towns.
In Parsons plans were made Saturday to form a Southeast Kansas group to promote new industry. The meeting drew 115 representatives from 15 area cities. Thomas J. McNally of Pittsburgh urged united action while F. W. Brinkerhoff, publisher, served as temporary chair and will name the organizing committee.
Billy Graham told 19,000 at Madison Square Garden that loneliness defines hell and that judgment is through faith in Christ. He described Russia ripe for revival and said New York embraced his sermons with strong spiritual hunger as attendances reached 467,000 since May 15.
Mrs Theresa Sittner Tiernan aged 56, formerly of Ottawa, wife of Dr B J Tiernan, died Sunday at 9 45 am in Providence Hospital Kansas City Kansas. Survivors include her widower two sons Lt Bernard F Tiernan USNAS Olathe three daughters Mrs Raymond Kierl Mrs Richard Gable Mrs Kenneth Troutwine ten grandchildren two sisters Mrs H T Roben Mrs Veronica Steerman. Rosary Tuesday night at Butler Funeral Home Kansas City Kansas. Funeral Wednesday at 8 15 am at the cathedral. Interment Mt Calvary Cemetery Kansas City Kansas.
Ida L Gleason age unknown formerly of this city died Saturday morning at 3289 Harrison Kansas City She is survived by two sons Bernard Gleason Kansas City and Ival Gleason Oklahoma City A Royal Neighbor lodge member for 40 years funeral services will be Tuesday at D W Newcomer's Sons chapel on the Paseo at Brush Creek Boulevard Interment will be in the cemetery at Munden Kansas
Dixie Lee Donaldson, 15, of Quenemo, was accidentally killed June 3. Funeral services were held June 9 at Towner's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger M. Can tril officiating. Pallbearers were Dean Price Joe Strange Fred Campbell Leon Warbritton Willard Thornbrough Richard Thornbrough. Mrs. Lawrence Ott and Mrs. Robert Craig sang Sunrise and In the Garden. Interment followed at Garnett.
Paul J. Neff, former chief executive of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, died Saturday night of a cerebral hemorrhage at 72. He guided the line through its 23 year receivership and stepped down less than a month ago. Neff was elected president when the railroad was restored to private operation on March 2, 1956.
A bombing at the Casino de la Corniche during a seaside tea dance killed seven young people and wounded 83, many from prominent Algiers families. Officials blame Algerian nationalists amid ongoing rebellion, with injuries extending to children attending with families. The device detonated at 7 p.m. under the bandstand as dancers, including members of the orchestra, gathered in the palm garden venue.
The News Chronicle reports Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip will visit the United States for six days in October. They will attend Jamestown Va celebrating its 350th anniversary, then begin a three day Washington visit as guests of President Eisenhower, with potential trips to San Francisco or Chicago. The trip ends October 21 with official announcement soon.

Washington Senator Knowland denounces Khrushchev's troop withdrawal proposal as propaganda yet urges a test of good faith. He suggested neutralizing Norway if Soviet troops leave Hungary, noting Hungary’s Kadar regime would fall without Soviet presence. He claimed to have proposed this in a letter to Secretary Dulles with no reply.
Police logged two auto accidents in Ottawa on Sunday. George Gallager’s car in a North Main parking lot sustained minor damage after a backing vehicle hit it. In the 1000 block on North Main Allaine Eva Hughes lost control, struck the Super Oil Co pumps, causing about 400 dollars in pump damage and major car damage.
