He warned resistance could lead to use of federal marshal or troops and a police state, though he doubted it would reach secession.

The House approved a 3.8 billion dollar foreign aid bill, slashed more than a billion below Eisenhower’s request. The 273 to 122 vote kept the aid program at a level still 1.1 billion above last year, with final funding to be provided in a separate measure.
Chicago reports two polio experts say Salk vaccines may reduce transmission to unvaccinated caregivers and family members by preventing silent carriers. At the AMA meeting, Dr. Salk and Dr. Bodian describe extra dividends, while Dr. Scheele urges immediate use of every vaccine drop, even in epidemics, to prevent paralytic cases and deaths later in summer.
Mrs. Elsie Shirk seventy one year old millinery store operator in Abilene was struck and killed by a Union Pacific passenger train at a crossing. Witness Howard Moore said she did not hear warning signals and walked into the train’s path. Her husband Al died in 1954 and was a boyhood friend of President Eisenhower who visited the Shirks during his campaign return to Abilene. Mrs. Shirk had recently received a letter from Mrs. Eisenhower thanking her for remembering them on their wedding anniversary.

Argentina's military regime hunted leaders of a weekend revolt linked to ex-dictator Juan D. Peron. The government reported 38 rebels executed by firing squads and warned of more. Security swept Peronistas in Buenos Aires and major cities while arrests mounted in Rosario Santa Fe Santiago del Estero and Corrientes amid clashes that killed or wounded about 100.
Buenos Aires and Rosario report Jet fighters and navy bombers finally smashed rebel holdouts in La Plata and Santa Rosa. President Pedro Aramburu, back from the interior after the shooting, branded the uprising a mad adventure and vowed energetic measures against all participants.
Rapid City dispatch reports two Kansas men Albert Chester McIntyre 36 of McPherson and Henry Eugene Wunder 19 of LaCrosse who escaped twice from jail within three weeks. After breaking out at Great Bend on May 27 they were recaptured in the Black Hills last week but escaped again from a jail in the area Saturday night. Companion James Ritter about 18 from Hill City was captured soon after.
Gary Mobley aged 19 of Leon Kansas died last night from injuries after a two car collision Saturday night two miles south of El Dorado. Alva A. Nichols 40 of El Dorado driver of the other car and Dick Orndorff of El Dorado, a passenger, escaped injuries.
