Quality Of Small Town Life Stressed In Kansas

Ray Davis of the University of Kansas urged Kansas communities to value small town roots while embracing new ideas to spur development. The conference in Salina, run by Rep. Pat Roberts and KU, drew over 100 officials from rural business, education, and government. Participants defined quality of life as freedom from fear, community spirit, clean air, and a strong work ethic with humor. They urged upgrading Kansas image, prioritizing rural economic development, and public backing for growth while avoiding secrecy. Bob Parrish of Great Bend warned that some resist development, but preserving the base requires action and accountability.
