Mrs. Martha Winklehake Heitschmidt 71 of Quenemo died in Denver May 30 from heart attack while visiting relatives. Survived by husband Walter, four children, six siblings, ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Services set for June 4 at Zion Lutheran Vassar. burial Mt Zion. Mrs. Armina C. Fogle 90 died yesterday at Topeka Methodist Home for the Aged. formerly of Williamsburg. Born 1865 in Columbus Iowa. Topeka resident since 1946. Survived by stepson William C. Fogle and several nieces and nephews. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Monday Mulvane Chapel. Mt Hope Cemetery interment.

Albert Woolson 109 year old Civil War veteran at St Luke's Hospital in Duluth was placed in an oxygen tent to ease breathing for restful sleep. Hospital attendants reported a quiet night and noted oxygen therapy, not a sign of rapid decline, has been used previously for his lung ailment as the sole Union Army survivor.
A Nederland couple fell about 100 feet into Boulder Creek in Boulder Canyon last night. The husband William Cross about 27 is missing and believed dead. Patricia Cross 23 was rescued with an injured leg and shock. coroner Norman Howe said he was likely thrown from the wreck. Deputies and volunteers searched the swollen river for his body.
Clifton J. Allen of Nashville denounced widespread moral corruption in America at the Southern Baptist Convention in Kansas City. He urged a renewed crusade for Christian morality and warned that lust for money and self indulgence threaten the nation’s moral fiber. The 12,000 messengers moved to close the four day meeting as Louisville was chosen for the 1959 convention and Chicago for next year. Allen urged a return to New Testament teachings.

After July 4 the New York City Health Department announced pigeons will no longer be protected birds. Officials cited the birds as too morous and a nuisance, prompting a change in status.
