Franklin County Jail records show Christopher B. Thomas, 19, Ottawa, arrested on a warrant at 3:17 p.m. Wednesday. Earlier, William R. Holt, 44, Kansas City Kansas, arrested at 9:26 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of West Second Street on an Ottawa warrant. At 7:06 p.m. Thursday a 13-year-old Ottawa boy was taken into custody as a runaway.
Police reports show a 48 year old Ottawa man says items were stolen from an apartment building at 600 block of South Cedar. An Ottawa woman, 24, reports unknown suspects took a plastic post cover at Walmart on South Princeton. A Ottawa man, 49, reports damage to a water meter on North Cedar. In an accident, Wendy Blanton of Quenemo pulled from Short Stop and collided with a northbound motorcycle driven by Kenneth Teter, 49, of Richmond on South Main.
On Wednesday in the 700 block of Main Street police responded to public assistance incidents in Wellsville.
A 3 pound drumfish pulled a cleaning line through Ottawa sewers on East First street as workers attempted to feed a steel cable between manholes. A foreman offered a dollar for the fish and the line was successfully guided through after the fish swam to the opposite manhole. The fish rested in a tub afterward, while loafers haunt the old mill and local corners for shelter.
Norma Gould 78 of Ottawa died July 27 2011 at Village Plaza Ottawa. Born September 9 1932 in St Louis to Thomas and Gladys Doerflinger she lived in Ottawa since 2009 after moves from Springdale Arkansas Oceanside California and St Louis. A law clerk for Niblock Law Firm she retired in 2000. She married George Gould May 16 1974 in St Louis they later divorced. Survived by son Robert E. Quann III and fiance Carla Stoy Ottawa seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Preceded by parents a brother and a granddaughter. A 24 year old Ottawa woman reported a theft at the renovated Walmart on 2101 S Princeton St. A plastic post cover worth about 50 dollars was taken from the concrete post near the north doors. Police have no suspects as of Thursday afternoon. Safe Haven joins Petfinder as Osawatomie’s shelter uses the site to list adoptable pets. Prairie Paws in Ottawa also uses it. over 324,700 homeless pets are listed nationwide. Since 1996 Petfinder has helped about 20 million adoptions.
A Missouri official James Kraig Kahler may present evidence of his wife’s relationship with another woman to claim a mental breakdown behind the four fatal shootings in Burlingame Kansas. Kahler, 48, is charged with four counts of capital murder in the November 2009 killings of his wife Karen their two daughters Emily and Lauren and Karen’s grandmother Dorothy Wight. The Osage County judge ruled for the defense on the evidence issue. Trial set for August 8.
Salina officials report a police dog died from heat while in a weather protected kennel with water access. A necropsy confirmed heat-related death. The dog was young and healthy, and investigators seek contributing factors. The department has three dogs. the name of the deceased was not released.
Derby high school resource officers were cleared of wrongdoing after a confrontation with a 17 year old student over saggy pants. The student alleged a stun gun, a black eye, and an arm injury, while investigators said the injuries were unintended and resulted from the student's resistance and use of a racial slur.
Evelyn Louise Arnold, 85, of Ottawa, died Thursday, July 28, 2011. Services set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Friends may pay respects 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, with family gathering 9 a.m. Tuesday before services. Memorials may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
