Violent family incident leads to hospital visit

A 53-year-old Pomona woman took her 17-year-old son to Ransom Memorial Hospital after striking him with a ceramic pot during a family dispute. A report was sent to the county attorney. Theft report notes $200 missing in a Craigslist camera purchase attempt by a Wellsville man. Window broken for Ottawa man in overnight vehicle vandalism

Police report a 33 year old Ottawa man found a window broken out of his vehicle in the 800 block of South Sycamore during the overnight period ending Thursday at 8 a.m. No further details were provided.

First Ottawa tattoo shop opens with license

In 1998 Kansas licensing started for tattoos. Lonnie Duncan, owner of Exotic Tattoo in Ottawa, recalls providing tattoos to residents in 1991 when the shop operated unlicensed. He later moved to Gatlinburg as an artist. the North Ottawa location is recalled but not the exact address.

Pomona Teen Hurt After Mother's Pot Incident

A 17 year old Pomona boy was hospitalized after his mother accidentally struck him in the head with a ceramic pot during an argument outside their home. Franklin County Sheriff notes the act was an accident and the case will be reviewed by the county attorney. A separate incident at the Elizabeth Layton Center in Ottawa involved a 46 year old man breaking a window with a chair during screening, causing about 750 in damages. the man was transported for evaluation.

Hearing for man in 2000 abduction case continued again

The preliminary hearing for Ralph E. Corey, 51, charged with abducting and sexually assaulting a 16 year old in Ottawa in 2000, was postponed to 1 p.m. September 20 after two prior continuances. Corey's DNA matched a 2000 Ottawa Police investigation. he was arrested June 17 and jailed in Franklin County.

Reading bikes drive aids for tornado victims event

The Franklin County Recycling Center at 2039 S Elm St collects new and used bikes for Reading tornado victims and accepts helmets pads bike parts and accessories during weekday hours 7 am to 3 30 pm and Saturday 8 am to noon The effort is joined by Lake Region RC&D a six county group led by Don Stottlemire with counties Franklin Coffey Osage Anderson Miami and Linn People may also drop off at 113 N Oak St Ottawa RC&D office.

Wellsville Blue Grass Market Opens to Many Farmers

On July 22 1911 Wellsville opened its blue grass market drawing about 200 farmers. The average farmer held 10 acres of blue grass valued at 22 cents a pound or five dollars a bushel with potential yields up to 25 bushels per acre. The town touts its status as a leading blue grass market in the U S. A separate nighttime incident near Fourth and Cherry streets involved a large man wearing women’s clothes seen near the Durst home. officers searched the area but found nothing. Pomona school district adds a doorway to join two high school rooms for easier use.
