Heat continues as Kansas endures triple digits nationwide

The state baked under 100 degree heat with Hill City at 105 and Hays 104 while Salina Russell and Dodge City logged 102. The Kansas aging department issued a heat advisory for seniors as highs hover in the mid 90s to 100s with chances of storms through Friday and overnight lows mainly mid 60s to 70s.

Albright optimistic for summit despite Barak woes

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright says Israeli Prime Minister Barak can pursue peace with Yasser Arafat despite internal political turmoil. A Yediot poll shows 52 percent back Barak’s summit bid, while coalition partners threaten to quit over concessions on the West Bank and Jerusalem. Restoration of Kansas Mine Creek Battlefield Underway

The Mine Creek battlefield in Linn County Kansas, site of a major 1864 Calvary engagement, is being restored with help from the Mine Creek Battlefield Foundation, KU and the Kansas Historical Society. Ground penetrating radar guides reconstruction of the Fort Scott road, with plans to reseed prairie, remove woody growth, and recreate homesteads to show Civil War life and its civilian impact.
