Riots Rock Belfast as Rioters Target Police and Civilians
In West Belfast anti-British rioters hijacked and burned two buses, wrecked shops, and battled police with guns grenades and gasoline bombs. More than 230 vehicles were hijacked or burned since Sunday. A 14 year old Protestant boy was shot in the shoulder during a base attack. Hospitals report dozens of casualties with Belfast and Londonderry admitting wounded. The Irish Republican Army claimed responsibility for a Sunday policewoman shooting in Coalisland and attacks on soldiers.

Mir cargo ship delivers repair parts for space station power
The unmanned Progress cargo vessel arrived at Mir to deliver parts needed to restore full power after the June collision with a previous ship damaged the Spektr module. Two Russians and one American aboard will study the gear for 10 days before a cosmonaut will enter Spektr around July 17 for a corrective spacewalk.

Ex-governor Bennett recovering after surgery
Former Kansas Governor Robert F. Bennett, 70, of Overland Park is recovering from emergency stomach aneurysm surgery performed Saturday at St. Joseph Health Center. In fair condition Sunday, he served as the 39th governor from 1975 to 1979 and was the first president of the Kansas Senate in 1973-75.

Wheat harvest near complete in Kansas fields
In southern Kansas most wheat fields were cut while northern areas were about half done. Central Kansas was 97 percent harvested with yields of 60 bushels per acre or more. Garden City reported 80 to 90 percent completion with yields from 20 to 75 bushels per acre. No complaints were heard this year.

Attendance varied with about 130 to 140 at Sunday church service and roughly 300 at the B J Thomas and James Bonamy concert. finances showed a loss with ticket revenue uncertain and costs around 21 thousand dollars.

Two hurt in US 59 crash near Rin settled
A head-on collision about two miles south of Rin left both drivers severely injured. A late model Dodge pickup crossed the center line and struck a female driven Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. Rescue teams freed the woman after about 30 minutes. a helicopter landing was planned but canceled. Authorities withheld identifications while transporting victims to the hospital.
