The Ottawa City Commission on Monday agreed to place a Planning Commission appointment on Wednesday’s agenda with Terry White stepping down and Rev. Steve Van Ostrand proposed as his replacement. Also on the agenda are a beer sales license and a resolution honoring Brett Wheeler, City Band director for 20 years, while Wood Oil Company of Leavenworth seeks a Miller Mart license transfer to 304 E Logan.

Seven Die On Kansas Highways During Holiday Weekend

AP reports at least seven people were killed on Kansas highways during the extended 102 hour Fourth of July holiday period. victims include Patrick Michael Kappler 23 of Chanute Sun in U S 169 crash. Duane Bolling 17 of Paola who ran a stop sign. a man killed in Wichita under a severed utility pole. two Brown County accidents that left Timothy C Baker 35 of Soldier and Steven N Meyers 36 of Angola dead. Elizabeth Bohnert 14 of Superior Nebraska and Adam Thomas Lesler 22 of Fayetteville Ark died in separate incidents. the holiday period runs from Friday 6 p.m. to Tuesday midnight.
