Ottawa begins work on next year's city budget
Ottawa City Commissioners opened the budget process for next year. City Manager Scott Lambers proposed a budget near current mill rates with a two percent cost of living raise and up to three percent merit pay, plus a seven percent special bonus for long term staff. They consider funding for cemetery expansion, storm sewer upgrades, housing studies, IT study, and a 400000 sewage project to spur development, with July meetings planned.

Sewer woes mean added cost to city
The Herald News reports mechanical failures at the city sewage plant raise costs and risk. A sunken digester basin cap and a broken RBC shaft threaten the aging system of eight units, with seven usable. Utilities director Jim Bradley notes the shaft failure compounds delays as the city faces another $85,000 bill and weighs repairs versus a new plant planned within eight years.
