Train Tragedy at Valley Falls Kills Three in Tanker Crash

A fiery collision between a propane tanker truck and a Santa Fe freight train near Valley Falls Kansas killed three people and injured two others. The tanker exploded sending the trailer 950 feet and the cab 200 feet away as three locomotives derailed. Investigators seek crossing light status. witnesses dispute whether signals were working.

Southwestern Bell to Buy Metromedia Cellular, Paging Units

Southwestern Bell Corp announced a 1.65 billion purchase of Metromedia Inc cellular telephone and paging businesses subject to regulatory approval. The deal would add ownership in nine cellular systems and paging services in 19 metro areas, expanding service to markets with over 45 million people. John W. Kluge called the opportunity attractive.
