Ottawa U.S.C. 290 teachers will vote next week on a board salary proposal that raises general fund salaries by 3.55 percent to 2.63 million dollars for 123 general fund teachers, with 150 total when special and vocational educators are included. The board, after June 1 negotiations, raised its offer following a 14 hour bargaining session, while teachers cooled on the new terms.
The forecast calls for hot, sunny and windy conditions with highs near 100 in western Kansas and the 90s eastward for the holiday weekend. City Hall, Franklin County Courthouse, Social and Rehabilitation Services, Social Security, and Agriculture Department offices close. County landfill and Ottawa Library will keep normal Saturday hours. The Herald will not publish Friday.
Ottawa Jaycees present Chautauqua Days at Forest Park with a 9 a.m. softball tournament, 11 a.m. youth events for ages 6 to 12, noon carnival and concessions, 1 p.m. children’s games, 3 p.m. tug of war and obstacle races, 7 p.m. City Band concert, and a 9:30 p.m. fireworks display marking Independence Day.
