EPA gasoline favors corn farmers in cleaner fuel plan
President Clinton moved to require cleaner burning gasoline with higher oxygen content starting next January. 15 percent of the oxygenate must come from renewable sources, rising to 30 percent after the first year, boosting demand for corn-based ethanol and benefiting Archer Daniels Midland and other ethanol makers. The EPA estimates emissions from gasoline could drop up to 15 percent in areas where the new fuel is sold.
