Gene knockout in roundworms may aid obesity cures
Harvard biologist Gary Ravkin identifies about 400 fat related genes in C elegans and deactivates around 300 to produce thinner worms. The new technique, using bacteria fed to worms to trigger gene knockout, allows rapid inactivation of hundreds of genes daily and could accelerate obesity drug targets, though human use remains years away.
