Death penalty costs fuel moratorium debate in Kansas
The high price of prosecuting and defending two murder cases in Kansas amplifies calls for a death penalty moratorium. Trials of Reginald and Jonathan Carr and John E. Robinson Jr. carried multimillion dollar bills, while Douglas County pursues death for Damien Lewis. Opponents cite cost and fairness, while supporters argue capital cases deter crime and may lead to plea deals.
