House Takes On Reapportionment Next Monday
In Topeka Kansas the Senate reapportionment bill for four multi member districts heads to debate in the House Monday. The House killed the Uniform Consumer Credit Code bill amid criticism from the Kansas Retail Council chair. Senate foes advanced four election bills and the reapportionment plan, already passed by the Senate, won easy approval in committee with a lone nay from Rep. James Holderman. Rep. Billy McCray opposed, citing black representation concerns in Wichita and arguing the multi member districts clash with the 1968 legislature intent. The four districts cover Sedgwick Wyandotte Shawnee and Johnson counties, a plan set by a federal panel after the prior reapportionment.
