University backs off affirmative action fight
In San Francisco UC regents postponed action on restoring race and gender considerations six months after voting to drop affirmative action. A two hour faculty presentation and 11 student arrests followed a public meeting. Regents postponed indefinitely Gomez proposal to rescind the July 20 vote, while a one year freeze was delayed at sponsor Levin’s request. Governor Wilson urged they stick to the original stance. Levin aims to bring the measure to the board in March.
