In a court motion producers seek delay in submitting Simpson videotape and outtakes fearing leaks will cut profits. Two distributors bailed. Technicolor and an 800 number provider pulled out, forcing new partners and a major facility to be found. Simpon deposition will span days with possible further sessions. The Baker University William Alfred Quayle Rare Bible Collection adds a Clinton signed Bible from December 1995 to its presidential volumes. Curator John Forbes notes it is the 10th U S president signed Bible in the set, dating from Truman in 1945, with August display planned during the election year.
Baker University marks its 138th founding with a Founders Day Convocation featuring Leonard Sweet of Drew University at 11 a.m. in Rice Auditorium and a clergy workshop at Baldwin First United Methodist Church at 1 30 p.m. The day honors the United Methodist ties and Baker’s 1858 origin named for Bishop Osmon C. Baker.
Ottawa Community Arts Council unveils its Winter 96 schedule with classes for youth 12 and up. Highlights include Beginning Ceramics with Ann Salle weekly from February through March, Painting with Nancy Oakes in two sessions, Chinese Calligraphy with Mark Chang, and Bead Embroidery with Lillian Lantis. Also offered are Beginning Black & White Photography with Ron Clevenger, Chinese Watercolor with Shirley Swayne, Improvisational Theatre with Tim Connard, and various youth and family art activities. Tuition ranges from 3 to 25 dollars with supplies extra. many classes specify dates, times, and locations across Ottawa venues.
The Winter of 1996 pulses across the nation with a drop in Midwest temperatures and rising East Coast floodwaters. Greenbrier and Potomac rivers breached banks forcing evacuations in Keyser and Parsons. In Marlinton water intruded homes as residents expressed fears of widespread damage. West Virginia reported about 430 homes damaged and 330 roads closed with rivers cresting anticipated. Additional flooding hit Virginia Maryland Ohio Pennsylvania and New York, trapping 16 people in Ligonier township building.
A tugboat explosion near Narragansett Rhode Island sent a six crew to abandon a 340-foot barge carrying 4 million gallons of diesel oil. Coast Guard rescued all, with one hoisted by helicopter in 60 mph winds and rain as the Scandia burned and the barge ran aground about 900 feet off Matunuck Beach.

The Health Dept offers kindergarten and pre school physicals by appointment at 229 9599.

The plan would require students under 21 seeking state university admission to meet multiple standards. They must complete a Board of Regents prescribed pre college curriculum with a 2.0 GPA, including English four years, math three years, social studies three, science three, foreign language two, and computer science one year. They must score 23 on the ACT and rank in the top third of their high school class. Ten percent of incoming freshmen at each of six universities would be exempt from the minimum.
