The government says the Star used unfair practices to monopolize news and advertising in the Kansas City area. Rockford Shaw Jr. testified that Lees reviewed ads from a rival publication at conferences and urged advertisers to shift their budgets to the Star.
Anchor Savings and Loan officials announced 1954 as the most prosperous year in the firm’s history. The annual meeting in Kansas City confirmed earnings over 1 million dollars and dividends totaling 510,361.73. Total assets reached 20,413,178.90 with Ottawa and Kansas City offices represented.

In Chickasha Oklahoma Mildred Taylor recalls stuffing pebbles up her nose as a child. A doctor removed five pebbles from her nasal cavity during a minor operation. She expressed relief and said she could breathe from both nostrils for the first time.
