Floyd Alva Lee 72 farmer of near Ottawa died suddenly at 2:30 pm at his daughter's home after visiting his grandson Eugene Leach. Born August 1882 in Missouri, he lived in Franklin County 35 years. Survived by wife Eth el Grigg Lee. sons Clifford and Floyd H. Lee. daughters Jesse Markley Russell Leach Tate Leach Ottice Patterson Eugene Mali. 15 grandchildren. sister and eight brothers. Funeral at Lamb Funeral Home Thursday 2 pm. Rev Carl Bush to officiate. interment at High Prairie. Graveside burial at Princeton Cemetery planned for tomorrow 3 pm. Phillip H. Bentz 42 of Overbrook died Friday night at home. funeral plans pending with Overbrook church. buried at St John Lutheran in Tampa Kansas. survivors include wife Mildred Bentz and two sons. mother, five brothers, two sisters.

Former Ottawan Bird Dies in California Crash
Lawrence Eugene Smith of Independence formerly lived in Ottawa and served in the navy at Long Beach California. He died in a collision near Sunset Beach with a parked truck while a shipmate also perished. He was born in Ottawa and survived by his parents Nelson and Ruth Smay, sisters Norma Bird Lois Morris Irma Smith and other relatives.

A Garnett district court jury cleared Donald Lee Hastert of Garnett of the drunk driving charge filed by the city on September 12. City Attorney Doug Gleason led the case for the city, with John B. Pierson as counsel for the defendant. A separate charge of being drunk in a public place against Roy Osborn of Garnett was dismissed. G. A. Logan of Homewood pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and received 30 days in jail with parole and a $500 bond. County Attorney Jack Byrd prosecuted for the state. Pierson served as special prosecutor in the Logan case.
