Edward Wheaton 99 dies in Ottawa with service set

Edward Walter Wheaton, 99, of Ottawa died Thursday December 22 2016. A celebration of life is planned for 10 am Monday January 16 2017 at Dengel Son Mortuary with family and friends meeting after. He was born September 13 1917 in Independence Missouri to Clarence and Angela Wheaton.

Chamber invites input on downtown changes in Ottawa

The Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce plans two public meetings led by Architect One to gather ideas for a vibrant downtown. Meetings set for January 13 in the Ransom Memorial Conference Room and January 17 at First Baptist Church will feature light meals. The effort cites Topeka’s Kansas Avenue Project, funded with six million dollars in public money and four million in private donations.

Ottawa area recalls Ed Taylor a community leader

Community members remember Ed Taylor who arrived in Ottawa in 1975 and shaped county government. He pushed for a full time emergency manager and fire coordinator and helped hire the county administrator in 2005. A longtime church leader and business figure, Taylor served 12 years on the county commission and chaired it for many years.
