Kansas wind farm plan sparks debate in Kansas counties
In Ellsworth and Lincoln counties a wind project by Lenexa based Kansas Wind Power faces opposition from the Friends of the Smoky Hills while securing land leases from about a dozen owners for 20 000 acres. The plan promises 150 to 200 construction jobs and 10 to 15 long term posts with $3 000 per turbine yearly leases and an uncertain federal tax credit. Local officials cite potential economic gains but critics warn of landscape impact and timing hinges on federal incentives and utility contracts.
