State Democrats Spent More Than Received in 1972
TOPEKA AP The Democratic State Committee filed a report showing about 165000 dollars in expenditures and 158000 dollars in contributions for the first 11 months of 1972, a net outflow of about 7000 dollars. Chair Norbert Dreiling said an audit due Monday would confirm if expenditures exceeded income. The GOP audit was delayed by a computer problem. Major donors included Century Club members and Gov Docking’s October birthday dinner. Largest expense was 71399 dollars to Christensen Barclay Shaw for Docking campaign ads. Dreiling noted some spending also supported Atty. Gen. Vern Miller. Dreiling said December bills forced a 20000 dollar loan and the party had just over 1000 dollars in the bank after November’s campaign. The audit was filed early to show good faith, as state committees are the only campaigns required to audit.
