Kansas tax plan eyed to aid school financing plan
A Topeka legislative committee tentatively approves a school finance plan raising state income tax by 1.5 percent to generate about 65 million dollars for property tax relief. The measure aims to meet court rulings on unequal district support and would net over 50 million from residents and more than 15 million from non residents and certain entities. It would add 113.57 million in new state funds for local schools with uniform statewide collection and direct distribution to cut mill levies and reduce local property taxes in most districts.
