Demo Women to Meet at Ottawa Country Kitchen

The Franklin County Democratic Women plan their annual meeting at 0 am Saturday at the Ottawa Country Kitchen on south US 59. Officers will be elected and committee reports given, with a support group workshop and public session on living wills and health care decisions led by Joyce Wasmund.

OU Hosts Inaugural Debate Tournament At Ottawa University

Ten schools compete in the first annual Alice Gordon Wilson Debate and Forensics Tournament hosted by the OU Braves Forensics Team at Ottawa University. Notable entrants include Kansas State University Pittsburg State University and Johnson County Community College. Registration opens at 3 with events 4 to 8 tonight. Saturday events run 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. with awards.

Williamsburg to get a new modular post office

A USPS official confirmed Williamsburg will gain a modular post office but site location remains undecided. The plan, made about a year and a half ago, aims to meet ADA access needs including the entrance and restroom. Officials viewed possible sites last week. decision sent to Wichita for action with a goal of completion before next fall.

Wall Street gains as Dow tops prior high on strong GDP

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 15.66 to 3,285.11 by noon, surpassing the prior record close of 3,283.32 as investors priced in modest GDP growth of 0.8 percent in Q4. Callaway Golf jumped to 31% on heavy trading after its IPO at $20, while Home Shopping Network advanced amid merger talk with QVC. NYSE composite edged up .85 to 229.60.
