OU students hear careers panel shape futures

Ottawa University hosted an all campus career seminar with hundreds of students after a brunch at the Mowbray Union. Panels covered Physical Education, Business, English, Biology, Education, Human Services, and History with speakers from Ottawa area schools, Hallmark, KU Recreation, and Neosho County Community College.

Civil rights ruling ends Emporia district complaint

The Office of Civil Rights will not pursue a civil rights complaint by Lloyd Steele filed against the Emporia school district over alleged discrimination linked to equalizing girls and boys programs. Steele, fired March 27, 1991, remains a district teacher, and OCR found his firing legitimate though the district lacked equal facilities. Superintendent Harold Hosey said corrections will occur through a bond funded construction and remodeling program.

House panel approves extra 25 billion for RTC bailout

A House subcommittee voted 25 to 11 to add 25 billion dollars to the savings and loan bailout cost, a fraction of the 160 billion dollar level sought by the Bush administration. Congress has already provided 105 billion, with GAO and lawmakers urging restraint and funding through spring 1993.
