Timberlake beer proposal denied by Franklin County panel

The Franklin County Commission voted 2 0 to deny Dale Lathram’s request to sell 3 2 beer at Timberlake Ranch near Williamsburg. Commissioner Wasmund cited youth safety as a concern while Milliken and Robe had supported the township recommendation. The panel also discussed a joint bridge replacement with Osage County on Alabama Road, potentially funded by a state forestry grant of up to 50 000 for a wooden bridge 90 feet long and 26 feet wide. The grant would allow in kind county contributions through shared roadwork and bridge construction.

Paola Bendix/King plant keeps some Ottawa jobs

Bendix/King officials announced that 15 to 20 cable and wire manufacturing and related test jobs will stay in Paola. About 180 Paola employees will still transfer to Ottawa with over 100 moved last week and 27 more planned this week. End of March sees 28 hourly and 25 salaried transfers.

Kansas House considers 12 year term limit for lawmakers

Wichita Schools Reap Tripled State Aid Windfall

Wichita school district will receive nearly $9 million in general state aid this year, three times the expected $2.8 million. The revision reduces the anticipated loss from about $11 million to $5 million, easing cuts. the board had previously approved a $4 million in $900,000 building costs and $400,000 vocational program cuts and a 14.8 mill property tax hike.
