The Franklin County Historical Society will display about 60 items at the Old Depot Museum and feature pieces in the upcoming Visitor's Center. A donor, E. Morgan Williams, will provide a large batch of originals to complete the collection.
Kansas Supreme Court vacated Gary Kleypas's death sentence citing flaws in how special circumstances are considered but kept his murder conviction and capital punishment overall valid. Sentencing to restart in Crawford County with a new jury, Kleypas awaits at El Dorado Correctional Facility. The court set tie rules in mitigating factors and noted life in prison when appropriate.
Heart to Heart Home Plus, with facilities in Ottawa and Pomona, plans to close after KDHE actions. A December plan of correction confirmed the intent to shut down following a November survey finding lack of abuse reporting policies and a $2,500 fine. KDHE issued a closure letter and 30 days notice to families and residents for a smooth transition.
