Asian American consultant Pauline Kanchanalak and Thai associate Duangnet Kronenberg attended a White House coffee with President Clinton on June 18. Runaway white rhino shot after breakout in Louisiana
A 3 1/2 ton white rhino escaped the Zoo of Acadiana to cross US Highway 90 and charged three veterinarians before being killed by a shot to the head. Veterinarians had hoped to tranquilize it. The animal, about 15 feet from the Baton Rouge area veterinarian, was at the Zoo of Acadiana for a few weeks. A deputy spotted the rhino crossing the highway before dawn and authorities surrounded it after daylight. A Baton Rouge Zoo curator and LSU veterinarian joined the effort with tranquilizers, while the keeper carried a rifle for safety.
