Nuns Leave Barre Convent for Merged Carmelite Community
The 11 Discalced Carmelite nuns in Barre Vermont will relocate to join about 20 Carmelites in New York. Faced with aging members and few vocations, the Barre group will merge with Saranac Lake and Beacon communities, first by splitting current houses, then uniting under one roof in Beacon. The move ends 29 years in Barre, where residents and supporters express mixed emotions yet acceptance of a life aligned with prayer.
