Winter Pet Care For Outdoor And Indoor Animals
Kansas State University veterinarian Dr. Jacob Mosier warns antifreeze poisoning endangers pets in cold weather when outside pets are brought to garages. cats may sleep on warm car motors, so honk before starting. Indoor pets lack heavy winter coats, so limit outdoor time to five minutes for short haired animals and provide coats. Outdoor shelters must be insulated and small enough to keep body heat. Increase calories and fat in outdoor pets diets below freezing and offer warm water three times daily.
