Markets edge higher as oil stocks lift indices

Markets in New York rose modestly on firmer oil stocks with bets of OPEC cutbacks to steady prices. Trading shortened for the holiday, with the Dow at 10 065.93 up 0.3 percent, the S and P 500 at 1 147.19 up 0.2 percent, and the Nasdaq 1 947.68 up 0.1 percent.
