EPA to start watchdogging smaller feedlots in Kansas
The EPA proposes revised Clean Water Act rules targeting CAFOs to curb manure pollution from cattle and hog feedlots. Kansas would see more smaller operations file waste management documentation, with public comments invited over four months. Currently 412 large operations and 3,806 smaller farms face regulation depending on lagoons and potential pollution. Local industry voices urge caution, citing regulatory fairness and management quality differences.
