Illinois hospitals filthy and unsafe says court study
A court ordered study of Illinois psychiatric hospitals finds mentally ill patients kept in filthy unsafe conditions and sometimes tied down for hours. Experts criticize the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities for scant treatment and disrespect, likening parts of the system to state hospital back wards. Ben Wolf of the ACLU IL condemns the system as failing to do its job. The report, once sealed, was released after AP sought disclosure.
