Settlement announced in GM engine switch case
Illinois Attorney General William J. Scott announced a 40 million settlement with General Motors over Chevrolet engine switches in Oldsmobiles Buicks and Pontiacs. Each affected owner to receive 200 cash and a two year transferable warranty. The deal, awaiting judge Frank McGarr's approval, covers about 100000 people with negotiations supported by Ohio and Michigan AGs.

He led First Security and helped draft New Deal policies and fiscal stimulus. Eccles chaired the Fed from 1936 to 1948 and influenced banking and housing programs. He remained an influential Utah business figure and philanthropist.
