Wrights first flight re-creation fails on Outer Banks
A 100th anniversary attempt to re-create the Wright brothers first flight at Kill Devil Hills failed as a wood and muslin replica would not lift off. Despite engine work and wind hopes, the craft crawled 6 inches then sank into sand, ending the long hoped moment amid a 35,000 crowd and remarks from President Bush.
