Keep Christmas tree safe in Kansas
Manhattan readers are warned to check real Christmas trees closely for freshness. Foresters advise buying from local growers, noting most trees come from dedicated plantations and suggesting features like a pitch-covered stump and flexible needles. Douglas firs retain needles well when dry, while dry pines shed needles more quickly. Cut the stump and place the tree in water immediately after bringing it home.
