Evansville coach Dick Walters, emotional after a year since the crash that killed 29, saw the Purple Aces beat Murray State 59 58 with Darnell McGhee converting a late free throw after a steal. Barry Weston scored 13 and Eric Harris 12 as Evansville earned its first victory since the disaster. Purdue topped Arizona State 73 43 as Jerry Lichting led with 25, while SMU defeated Vanderbilt 68 64 and Texas Tech beat Northeast Louisiana 69 67 in overtime.
