Carew Blocks Major Trade For Twins Giants Swap
Rod Carew vetoed a Minnesota Giants deal that would have sent him to San Francisco after two teams completed terms for Jerry Koosman. The Twins then acquired Koosman from the Mets while other interleague trades shuffled Buddy Bell, Toby Harrah, Floyd Bannister, Craig Reynolds, Jim Mason, and Mike Hart as deadline activity heated up. Cal Griffith pushed for a Carew exit, seeking compensation if the star departed.
