Mrs J W Emerson of 1410 Elm shares Christmas friendly recipes suitable year round. Eagles Auxiliary voted a ten dollar contribution to Bar-H Boys Ranch at Nevada Missouri during Thursday evening remarks. It urged personal donations of clothing, food, and cash and announced upcoming events including a December 8 covered dish, a Christmas party December 19 and a December 22 Christmas dinner. Plans included a New Year breakfast after the New Year’s Eve dance and 10 a.m. sandwiches on New Year’s Day. Mrs. Harold Showalter won a mystery package and several club notices follow.
A dense list of community clubs and church groups gathered for meetings, luncheons, dinners, and events. Names include Mrs Clyde Hashagen, Mrs Clarence Nauman, Mrs John Allen Skilton, Mrs A H North, Eva Martin WMS, Marcia Cudworth WMS, Wesleyan Service Guild, Lend-A-Hand class, Women’s Missionary Union, Zigzaggers, Rotary AMS, and numerous other society circles across Ottawa and nearby towns with dates and venues noted for Christmas parties, potlucks, and open installations.
The Senior Citizens club gathered Friday afternoon for Christmas carols led by Mrs. Myrtle Graham at the piano. Mrs. Williams presided, devotions on God is Our Refuge were given with Exodus 33 scripture, Lord's Prayer recited, and a sick-member report shared. Birthdays for Mrs. Fred Thomas and Mrs. Lilly Alexander were celebrated with corsages. Readings were offered by Flora Sherman, A J Brady, Fayetta Burnett, Mr Brady, Madge Marcell, Lillian Spears, and L Spright with quotations.
Dr. Ruth M. Leverton discusses global food security and the need to balance hungry and well fed. She notes distribution challenges, national interests, and the role of local agriculture alongside surplus foods to aid development. Roy Huhn and family of Lawrence are mentioned with a long standing Christmas tree tradition.
