OU Women Open Season With Deep Freshman Roster

Ottawa University opens the 1976-77 women’s basketball campaign against Pittsburg State at Wilson Field House. Coach Genell Benjamin leans on depth and mobility to offset inexperience with 16 players, including several from the fall volleyball squad. Key returnees are Ann Adams Susan Mitchum and Carrie Saracino, with many freshmen slated to contribute. The Braves aim for a fast, high-pressure offense while navigating a six-game divisional slate and Heart of America Conference play culminating in state playoffs.

He notes possible minor adjustments after the April board meeting and mentions recommendations from the Kansas Coaches Association and others. He praises the 1976 plan for fairness and contends a district system could yield weaker qualifiers and more short schedules.
