The Supreme Court considers whether states may withhold public scholarship funds from students attending religiously affiliated schools. The case centers on Washington's Blaine amendments prohibiting spending public money at such institutions and could affect nationwide church state funding rules.
Monday at the Supreme Court justices agreed to decide if people working for the U S government can covertly arrest suspects abroad in a case the Bush administration calls a key test of anti terror powers. The court will also consider if employers may reduce pensions for workers who retire and then take another job balancing worker rights and employer costs. Gun rights groups were disappointed as justices did not rule on whether the Constitution grants a personal right to own a gun.
