Protein Hens Do Bit For Ag Scientists
USDA researchers at Beltsville Maryland compare dehydrated poultry excreta with alfalfa as crude protein supplements for lambs. Tests fed eight and twelve percent protein, showing excreta can match or exceed alfalfa in protein, calcium, and phosphorus. Lambs with excreta ate more, gained faster, and showed lower cost per pound of gain, especially at twelve percent protein.
