Winterizing On The Feed Value Of Milo And Roses
Questions on feed value of light weight milo arise each fall. Extension specialist Robert Wilcox notes milo under 50 pounds limits growth in swine and eggs. 40 to 50 pounds can feed to lambs and calves with results near normal. Under 40 pounds best for heavier lambs and cattle. 50 to 60 pound lambs and 300 to 400 pound cattle digest fiber poorly. Milo under 45 pounds has more hulls and fiber, plus handling issues and spoilage risk when stored moist. Now is the time for winterizing roses after freezes. cut tall canes, bind, clean debris, apply fungicide, avoid nitrogen, and provide winter protection with soil mounding or collars to protect roots and crown.
