South Africa charges Malan and 19 in 1987 massacre

Prosecutors in Durban formalize charges against former defense minister Magnus Malan and 19 others for 13 killings in 1987. The indictment also implicates Mangosuthu Buthelezi as a collaborator in creating a paratrooper style unit blamed for the massacre but he faces no charges. Glickman shuns Senate run for 1996

Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman said he has no interest in returning to Kansas to run for the Senate in 1996. The Wichita native and longtime Democratic congressman ruled out next year, noting only that he might consider a future run at age 75. He acknowledged Democrats could win the seat if they nominate an appealing candidate amid Dole's likely presidential bid.

Judge quits drinking in Wyandotte County bench case

Wyandotte County district judge Michael G. Memorial cost pegged at $120,000

The Franklin County Veterans Memorial Committee sets the project cost at 120000 with about 21000 already raised. Architect James S. Sullivan leads design for a memorial at the courthouse flagpole featuring five mahogany granite stones, a central fountain, brick walkways, and inscribed bricks sold for 40 each to fund construction and upkeep.

Ottawa University Feaste and Christmas Events Tonight

The seven con Feaste at Ottawa University starts at 7 o'clock tonight with entertainment by costumed performers. Tickets remain from the alumni relations office in the administration building. Gingerbread contest entries are on display today and Saturday at the Ottawa University Union. Micro mini pigs aid arthritis fundraiser at Walmart

A benefit for the Kansas Arthritis Foundation runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wal-Mart Supercenter. A litter of micro mini pigs weighing about 8 oz each will be displayed and one pig will go to the T. Arthritis Kiss-a-Pig Celebrity donor.
