Bank and law firm open at Baldwin City site

China hosts first day of women’s conference in Beijing stadium

The opening ceremony featured an all-women Chinese orchestra playing Ode to Joy as attendees swayed and clapped. More than 20,000 activists from private groups worldwide arrived for a 10 day meeting with calls for unity in six languages. Organizers vowed to defy bans on protests and guarantee freedom of expression at the gathering site.

Ottawa artist Nancy Oakes to tour with Three Lemons postcard

Ottawa artist Nancy Oakes will have her watercolor Three Lemons included in the Series XVIII Kansas Artists Postcard Competition touring exhibit. The top 16 works will be reproduced as postcards and sold through ACAAK affiliates, with 25 works selected for the tour from more than 240 entries.

NATO strikes target Bosnian Serb positions around Sarajevo

Allied forces attacked targets reducing Serb artillery around Sarajevo. NATO air raids hit air defense radar and communications sites, depots and command posts across Bosnia. Two waves of aircraft, including U S Navy F-18 and F-14 fighters, began just after 2 a m. 50 U S aircraft took part in the first strike. British French Dutch forces also involved enforcing the UN no fly zone. Planes targeted Bosnian Serb air defenses near Mostar Gorazde and Tuzla with no immediate confirmation of all participants.

Kansan Cities Battle Gas Contracts On Reloading Plan

Williams and three Kansas City area cities urge the state to reject contracts while arguing that reallocating higher rates to other states could occur if Williams loses the business. FERC involvement is debated as to whether such reloading would gain approval amid competing arguments from Wester and KCC staff. Earlier, the KCC denied a motion to reject the contracts. more testimony will follow.
