Explorers Trek Ends After Harrowing Manitoba Trek
Tab White carried a heavy pack and fell injuring his back near Knee Lake as the Explorer Post 2077 trek wound through calm rivers and rough rapids. After medical care in Winnipeg, White rejoined the group for a grueling 20 mile stretch with 23 portages reduced to four. The crew, encountering geese and wildlife, endured fog and a few mishaps including a bent canoe keel. They reached York Factory then Gillam and Winnipeg, sharing Cree insights and noting Oxford House life. The expedition served as a Scout post pilot and tested a new Oscar Mayer pre fried bacon while promising a magazine feature for White and visual material for Boys Life and Exploring. The trip was described as harder, more exciting, and better than any prior trek.
